"It has given me a credible foundation of knowledge to rely on when advancing strategies for operationalising reputation management. The course material was offered virtually while still providing engagement with real participants from all over the world."
Tell us about your professional experience before discovering the Corporate Governance Institute.*
I was a master’s student writing a thesis on operationalizing reputation management. I wrote about the intersection of reputation, corporate governance, experience design and technology. My research was published and I was invited to present my findings at an international conference in 2022. I currently work for a healthcare region in Canada to apply the theories I developed in operationalizing reputation.
What challenges or opportunities were you facing in your career or on your board before taking our course?
The biggest challenge I face is understanding power systems and how they impact decision-making and governance. The other challenge is working with non-profit boards that are under-developed in their governance practices.
Why did you choose to study for the Diploma in Corporate Governance with us to help with these challenges/opportunities?
I think the UK and EU are farther ahead on legislating corporations to do their part to make society better. My own observations are that Canada (where I live) and the US are still behind in evolving the legislation that governs corporations. ESG is so much more than climate change. It is about ethics, social cohesiveness and accountability. That is why I believe learning about governance and the mechanisms that result in “good” corporations is essential for business and non-profit communities alike.
Can you describe any particular elements of the course that stood out to you or made a significant impact?
The biggest impact of the course materials for me were the topics on Digital Transformation and Risk.
How has completing this course influenced your career, leadership approach, or governance or ESG skills?
It has given me a credible foundation of knowledge to rely on when advancing strategies for operationalising reputation management.
What did you find most beneficial about studying with the Corporate Governance Institute?
I liked the concepts covered in the curriculum. I could interact in a condensed timeframe because the course material was offered virtually while still providing engagement with real participants from all over the world.
